Pacifica Papers Inc. (Pacifica Papers), a former portfolio company, merged with Norske Skog Canada Limited in 2001 to form North America’s third largest groundwood paper and pulp company with 2.5 million tonnes of annual capacity. The combined company, now known as Catalyst Paper Corporation, has $3 billion in assets and 4,400 employees, and is one of the largest public companies headquartered in British Columbia. With operations at Crofton, Campbell River, Port Alberni and Powell River, Catalyst Paper is the largest producer of newsprint, telephone directory paper, lightweight coated paper and high-bright papers on the west coast of North America.
